The council met Friday at its offices in Frankfort. According to a news release, the council raised state resident undergraduate tuition and fees 6 percent for the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. It also approved a 5 percent increase for Eastern, Western, Northern, Murray State and Morehead State universities, and a 4 percent hike for the state's community colleges. "These tuition caps balance the needs and interests of students with those of our campuses to maintain operations," stated Council President Bob King. The ceiling for KCTCS would mean an increase of no more than $5 per credit hour. For the six comprehensive institutions, the ceiling results in a range of $288 additional per year at Murray State University to $360 at Western Kentucky University. At the University of Kentucky, the lower division ceiling is limited to $487 per year and upper division at $501. The University of Louisville's ceiling would allow no more than $480 per year.
