The council met Friday at its offices in Frankfort. According to a news release, the council voted to allow state resident undergraduate tuition and fees to increase no more than 6 percent at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. It also set a 5 percent limit at Eastern, Western, Northern, Murray State and Morehead State universities, and a limit of 4 percent for the state's community colleges. After the schools' boards set their tuition increase requests, the council will consider approving them at its May 21 meeting. Northern Kentucky University is likely to set the full increase of 5 percent. Neither NKU nor Gateway Community & Technical College has set next school year's tuition rates yet. The council said the caps balance the need to keep college affordable with the need to make up for millions of dollars in cuts in state subsidies. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry.
